Indian Brick Moulds are a thing of wonder. These seemingly simple, small wooden boxes are hugely versatile. Here are just a few of the myriad of uses we've come across:

  • Washing up caddy
  • Desk tidy
  • Windowsill herb planter
  • Storage box for seeds
  • Bathroom shelving
  • And....a table centrepiece

The brick mould is my go-to receptacle for creating a table centrepiece. The proportions of the box fit our traditional Victorian pine kitchen table perfectly. I also love the rustic patina and imperfections of these boxes, a style that transcends all seasons and occasions. So here is a quick how-to guide on creating a table centrepiece. This guide uses spring flowers for an Easter centrepiece, but the principle applies all year round.

You will need:

  • An Indian brick mould
  • A watertight foil takeaway tin or plastic Tupperware box that fits within the box.
  • A piece of chicken wire
  • Water
  • Stems & foliage, I used tulips, rosemary, and Viburnum Tinus.
  • Flower snips.

 Method:

  1. Place the foil container/Tupperware box inside the brick mould, ensuring the container you have chosen does not show above the surface edges of the box.
  2. Fit the chicken wire inside the brick mould, you can secure this by folding the edges inside to create rigidity. Ensure, no sharp edges are showing.
  3. Fill the container with the water
  4. Begin the arrange the stems, I start in the centre with longer stems and work outwards, add foliage to fill the gaps, ensuring the wire is not visible from either side.
  5. Place at the table centre, you can top the water up to keep your arrangement looking fresh over the coming days.
